Cost & Pricing

How much does window replacement cost in San Diego?

Vinyl replacement windows run about $650-$1,200 installed per window. Sliding patio doors run $1,800-$4,000, and bay or bow windows $2,500-$5,500. A whole-home project of 10-15 windows usually lands between $9,000 and $20,000. We confirm a written quote after the free in-home measure.

Do you give a written quote?

Yes. We measure every opening, check the framing, and put a written quote in your hands. The number we give you is the number on the invoice, with no surprise add-ons for work we scoped in.

Is there a fee for the measure visit?

The in-home measure and quote are free for new window projects. We come out, measure each opening, talk through frame and glass options, and follow up with a written quote in a few business days.

Are there rebates for energy-efficient windows?

Utility and state rebate programs change often and run out, so we do not promise a dollar amount. We can point you to current SDG&E and California programs, and you confirm the amount that applies at the time you buy.

Frames, Glass & Styles

Should I choose vinyl, fiberglass, or aluminum frames?

Vinyl is the value pick for most San Diego homes: low maintenance, good insulation, and it holds up to salt air. Fiberglass costs more but is stronger and paintable. Aluminum is mostly for commercial and modern looks but conducts heat. We recommend based on your budget, exposure, and HOA rules.

What is low-E glass and do I need it?

Low-E is a thin coating that reflects heat while letting light through. On west and south-facing San Diego windows it cuts afternoon heat gain and glare and slows fabric fading. For most homes here, a dual-pane low-E package with argon fill is the sweet spot.

Can you match my existing window style?

Yes. We replace single-hung, double-hung, sliders, casements, awnings, bays, bows, and specialty shapes like arches and rounds. We match the style, grid pattern, and color so the new windows fit the look of the house.

Retrofit or full-frame replacement?

A retrofit fits a new window inside the existing frame and is faster and cheaper when the frame is sound. Full-frame replacement removes everything down to the studs and is the right call when there is rot, water damage, or you are changing the opening size. We tell you which your openings need.

Permits, Codes & Installation

Do replacement windows need a permit in San Diego?

A like-for-like retrofit usually does not. Changing the opening size, adding an egress window, or any structural work does need a permit. We tell you up front when one applies and pull it when the scope calls for it.

What are the egress window rules for a bedroom?

California requires a minimum clear opening for sleeping rooms: at least 5.7 square feet, a minimum 24-inch clear height and 20-inch clear width, with a sill no higher than 44 inches off the floor. Bedroom conversions and basement rooms must meet egress, and we size the window to code.

How do you keep water out after install?

The flashing and sill pan matter more than the window itself. Our crews install a sloped sill pan, integrate flashing with the existing weather barrier, and seal with a backer rod and quality sealant. Done right, the opening sheds water and the wall stays dry.

When is tempered or laminated glass required?

Code requires tempered safety glass near doors, in bathrooms near tubs and showers, and in low or large panes that people could walk into. Laminated glass adds security and noise reduction. We flag every opening that code requires to be tempered.

San Diego Conditions

Why do windows fail faster near the coast?

Salt air and constant marine-layer moisture corrode metal parts, degrade old seals, and pit cheap hardware. Coastal homes in Coronado, Del Mar, and Encinitas see foggy failed-seal glass and sticky operation sooner. Vinyl frames and quality stainless hardware hold up best near the ocean.

Can new windows cut the heat in my inland home?

Yes. Inland areas like El Cajon, Santee, and Escondido see strong afternoon sun and triple-digit summers. A dual-pane low-E package with argon fill on west and south-facing windows is the single biggest comfort upgrade, and it lowers cooling load through the hottest part of the day.

Do you replace foggy windows without redoing the frame?

Often, yes. A foggy window means the seal on the insulated glass unit failed and moisture got between the panes. If the frame and sash are sound, we can replace just the glass unit and keep your existing frame, which costs far less than a full window.

How Our Referral Service Works

How does Window Pro SD work?

You call us. We set up a free in-home measure, talk through frame and glass options, and put a written quote in your hands. If you move forward, we assign a vetted local crew that handles the order, removal, install, flashing, and trim.

Are you the crew, or do you sub it out?

We are a referral and coordination service. The crew on your job is a vetted local team that installs windows full-time, not a general handyman. We handle matching, scope, and quality follow-up; they do the install.

Are the crews insured?

Yes. Our matched crews carry general liability and workers comp, and we confirm coverage before any job starts. We are not a licensed contractor ourselves, so you can and should verify any contractor license at cslb.ca.gov before you sign.
